Preparing for a Bountiful Autumn on Risshu.
Using Your Planner to "Reset → Declare → Care for Your Body"
According to the calendar, autumn begins today. Even if it's still hot, there's no reason not to take advantage of this turning point.
According to the calendar, autumn begins today.
Even if it's still hot,
why not use this turning point to prepare for a bountiful autumn?
Risshu (August 7th~) — The 24 solar terms mark the beginning of autumn.
August 7th marks "Risshu," the 13th of the 24 solar terms. While the intense summer heat and lingering summer heat continue outside, autumn officially begins on this day according to the calendar. It's the season when the air in the mornings and evenings begins to shift ever so slightly, and the sounds of insects can be softly heard.
It would be a waste to simply let this turning point of "Risshu" pass by. Today, I'll introduce three preparations for a bountiful autumn using your planner.
The 13th of the 24 solar terms. It is said to be the day when "autumn stands," meaning the signs of autumn begin to appear. In 2026, it runs from August 7th to August 22nd. Any heat after this day is called "zansho" (lingering summer heat), and summer greetings change to "zansho mimai" (lingering summer heat greetings). The Obon holiday (August 13th-16th) also falls during this period.
Preparation ① Reflect in your planner — Unadorned, just as you are
To welcome a bountiful autumn, there's something you need to do first: honestly reflect on who you are now.
It's not just a reflection of "what went well," but an outpouring of everything, both positive and negative. The fun things, the happy things, gratitude to those around you — and also, honestly, any experiences that you disliked.
Writing helps organize your thoughts and feelings, bringing you back to a balanced self. Only when you're in a refreshed, neutral state can you truly commit to what you genuinely want to do from autumn onwards.
Open your August page and pour it all out
Whether it's the memo section on the left side of your Forte Diary Monthly page or the Journal pages at the back, either is fine. Take one page and honestly write down your current self. You don't need to organize it neatly. Just write as thoughts come to you, exactly as they are.
✅ What were the fun/happy things in the first half of the year?
It doesn't have to be big things. Jot down moments that come to mind, instances of laughter, or events that moved you.
🙏 Who/what are you grateful for?
People who supported you, situations where you were helped. Expressing it in words deepens your gratitude.
😤 What experiences did you dislike?
It's okay to honestly write about negative experiences. Writing them down and getting them out helps you move forward without dwelling.
💭 Honestly, how are you feeling right now?
Tired, not feeling clear, a bit heavy — that's okay. Writing it down should make you feel a little lighter.
"Once you've poured it all out, you'll feel neutral.
From there, autumn begins."
Preparation ② Make a "declaration" for the remaining 4 months
Once you've reset through reflection, it's time to look forward. There are still four months left in the year. What will you do this autumn and winter?
It doesn't have to be a grand goal. "I was busy with work all summer, so I'll spend autumn quietly" is a perfectly valid declaration. "Read this book," "Wake up a little earlier every morning," "Meet a friend once a month" — simply put what's important to you into words.
If the first page is full, use the second page.
The Forte Diary My Life Planner has two spread pages. Review the first page you wrote at the beginning of the year and check "what to continue" and "what to add from autumn." If there's space left, add to it; if it's full, use the second page.
Once you've written your "declaration," it's a good idea to also write a short phrase in the "This Month's Theme" section of your Monthly Planner. Seeing it every time you open your planner will subtly remind you throughout your daily life.
Preparation ③ Write down lingering summer heat/autumn fatigue prevention as "appointments"
The period from Risshu to Shosho (August to early September) is a transitional season from summer to autumn, and it's easy to fall ill. Accumulated summer fatigue combined with temperature and pressure changes can easily lead to "autumn fatigue," with many people feeling changes in their physical condition particularly around the first week of September. Even as the lingering summer heat continues, it's important to take preventative measures now.
To enjoy a bountiful autumn, we recommend "writing down body care as a ToDo for this month in your Monthly Planner." If you just think about it, it tends to get postponed, but if it's written in your planner, you can act on it as an appointment.
The transition from summer to autumn is a period of significant fluctuations in atmospheric pressure, temperature, and humidity, which can easily disrupt the autonomic nervous system. If you often feel "vaguely sluggish" or "have a heavy head," please also refer to our article before the rainy season (Weather-Related Ailments x Planner Techniques).
Reset through reflection, set your direction for the remaining four months, and schedule body care as appointments. Simply doing these three things at the timing of Risshu will significantly change the beginning of autumn for you.
